Internships in Porto

Porto is an industrial and commercial city which has about 300,000 inhabitants, but the Porto metropolitan area has around 2,500,000 inhabitants in a 50km radius, with cities like Gaia, Matosinhos, Maia, and Gondomar. The city was built along the hills overlooking the Douro river estuary and has a semi-Mediterranean climate and is strongly affected by the Atlantic ocean, which makes it cooler and more rainy than other cities with this climate.

The city is varied architecturally, but extremely hilly, with buildings built into the cliff face that overlook the river. Across the river Douro in the suburb of Gaia there are large warehouses of notable companies with cellars dealing with Port Wine, such as Cálem, Fonseca, Sandemans, Kopke and others. There are so many wonderful things that you can do in porto such as vist the Dragão Stadium, the stadium of FC porto, and the FC Porto museum. Or you could go on a walking tour of the city or a port wine tour or visit the various wine caves in Gaia.

Benefits of the Internships

Some of our positions in Portugal offer a small stipend. Some positions offer other benefits such as free accommodation or meals however this depends on the provider of the position. All benefits will be arranged before the internship begins.

Type of Internships

We organise curricular internships as law requires students to be enrolled in a post-secondary institution in order to be able to do a placement. Curricular internships are as a part of your studies where the internship is worth ECTS credits, often as a part of the Erasmus plus program.

Eligibility

For EU citizens it is really easy to do an internship in Portugal. To do a curricular internship all you need is a training agreement from your university. A training agreement is a document which contains all the details of your internship which proves that the internship is as a part of your studies. It must be signed by all parties, your university, the receiving company and by you, the intern.

For non-EU citizens you may be required to obtain a Visa before your arrival to Portugal. For more information on eligibility and guidelines follow the link here.
